Who We Are
We are a seniors’ climate action group that supports young people’s lead, amplifies their voices, and adds our own to the growing movement for climate action. We inform and mobilize seniors to prevent more climate catastrophes while recognizing that climate action is also a demand for social justice and economic transformation.
We are in this for the sake of future generations and the survival of life on the planet.
Join us as we plan actions and advocate for a just transition away from fossil fuels in Brant, Hamilton, Niagara, and Norfolk.

Furthering SCAN!’s Community Resilience and Resistance Campaign (CRRC)
On April 17, three BHNN Chapter members met with Ned Kuruc, MP for Hamilton East – Stoney Creek. This was BHNN’s second meeting with Mr. Kuruc in 2026. We continue to have a good dialogue with the MP and his assistant as we relay our concerns regarding climate change and the Canadian government’s lack of substantial action. We are scheduling another meeting and plan to focus on one issue and to encourage him to speak in the House of Commons about climate issues.
Rallying and then Relaxing on March 27, 2026
SCAN! BHNN chapter members and Elders for Climate Sanity met outside JP Danko’s riding office (Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas) for an outreach event to bring climate change to the attention of the federal government. It was a cold day, but the camaraderie was warm.

A Conversation with Climate Change
On April 15, Robert Hicks gave a presentation titled “A Conversation with Climate Change” at the Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Seniors Village in St. Catharines. This speculative story addressed the question If Climate Change could talk, what would its message to humanity be?. In this presentation, Climate Change came to life and introduced the audience to litreprint, a new term and metric to help measure CO2 because from every litre of fuel we burn, we produce a litreprint of CO2 with a mass of 109 square centimetres. Every litreprint drifts into the atmosphere where it will stay for hundreds of years, contributing to the rise in PPM (parts per million) of CO2 that is causing and accelerating climate change. The audience gave this presentation great reviews.
Earth Day 2025 in Beamsville
On April 19, SCAN! BHNN participated in EcoFest, an Earth Day celebration with a focus on environmental awareness, particularly urban forests. Our SCAN! display featured the film Later is Too Late, environmental awareness materials, and information about SCAN!.
Port Rowan/Earth Day 2025
Member Bob Wood arranged an event at the Birds Canada facility in Port Rowan for Earth Day, April 22. Attendees had an opportunity to view the film Later is Too Late and go on a bird walk. There were climate group and native plant tables. It was a beautiful day to come out of hibernation and meet others who are concerned about what’s happening to our planet.
Hamilton/Later is Too Late
On May 3, BHNN and Seniors for Climate Sanity (350.org in Hamilton) presented the film Later is Too Late at the First Unitarian Church on Dundurn. About 60 people attended to watch the film and join in conversation groups afterwards to discuss thoughts and ideas for climate action.
Beamsville/Rally against Bills 5 and 17
On June 3, four BHNN members, Shelley, Sonia, Linda, and Frances, joined with Biodiversity and Climate Action Niagara to rally in front of MPP Sam Oosterhoff’s office. The focus of the rally was Bill 5 and Bill 17, two disastrous bills that passed in the Ontario legislature two days after the rally. The fight against these bills will continue.
