Protecting the Niska Lands
SCAN! Guelph delegated to City Council on June 9, 2026, to have a parcel of greenspace, the “Niska Lands,” designated from residential to Open Space/Parkland. However, Council did not support the motion and referred the matter to the province for redesignation.
Still hopeful.

Our April Chapter meeting this month is our Earth Day event. Bring your friends and family.
Climate chaos is undeniable and human activity is stretching the limits of our ecosystem. Peatlands offer our generation an opportunity. But what do we really know about these mysterious ecosystems? And what impact do they have on the well-being of our planet?
From majestic marshlands to lush mangrove forests, this film explores the fascinating diversity of these ecosystems and reveal their crucial role in climate change.
The filmmaker also reveals the devastating effects of land use change, pollution and human greed on these fragile ecosystems. in telling his story, he engages with policy makers who have the power to bring about change and scientists who are working tirelessly to protect and restore wetlands.
Word is getting out!
SCAN! made our local Liberal MP’s fall newsletter, “Seniors’ Edition.” We’re connecting with our local MP to reinforce the fact that we want renewable projects, clean energy, climate action … She knows who we are and what we want. We also handed her over 250 signed postcards for delivery to Ottawa and PM Carney demanding that he not use our tax money to support oil and gas production or pipelines.
